Budweiser Dress
So is this dress like, really wrong?! Or could it be OK? I’m quite in awe of it after seeing this pic by photographer Moni Haworth (courtesy of TrashforceReaper in my blogroll).

I love the filthy trashiness of it. It fully reminds me of Brittany Murphy’s character Nikki in ‘Spun’ who is definitely a fashion inspo for me.

I’d pair it with my beautiful all saints boots if I was feeling particularly sexy and confident or biker boots/cowboys and leather jacket for the full on ‘Nikki’ white trash thing or dm’s and stonewash denim jacket if I was really gonna do the 90’s thing. I’d also need some leg – coverage as my pins aren’t nearly as lithe as this lucky lady’s.
There is something completely awesome about a tiny little dress (such as the AA body cons) and a fat pair of boots and industrial jacket (basically leather or denim). I feel really confident and ’stompy’ when I wear an outfit like that, like I belong in the city and feel comfortable with my surroundings. I can’t remember a lot of it but you know in the film The Craft when they are all killer walking down the street staring straight ahead. Haha I mean I don’t do that in the middle of Bristol but with a skimpy dress and a pair of boots I feel like I have a little edge, y’know/ ha
It is totally 90’s all over though I think. I mean the 90’s are here in terms of fashion and I think even music, which is weird as they’ve only just gone really. But I’m not gonna complain. The atmosphere and mood of the time is quite compelling and it was a great time for culture as fashion/music/film/politics all clashed and fucked and got high and it felt exciting. Even for me and I was only a kidder for most of it.
It is strange though that the ninties revival has come about just as a recession is setting in – it makes me wonder whether there is any link to the financial difficulties that occured in the early 1990’s. Have we made the move from over the top, bad tasting 80’s glamour for the second time? How weird if (fashion) history just repeated itself…
…sorry for my ramblings. I love to think of fashion culturally and I’d love to think that the 90’s came about twice due to social political pressures. Maybe I’ll write about that properly another day…
…but for now is that dress really to wrong to actually own?!
